How tan-through swimwear works
Coração Bobo tan-through swimwear is made from a micro-perforated mesh that allows a controlled amount of sunlight to reach the skin underneath. Unlike ordinary lycra, which blocks almost all of the sun’s rays, our fabric lets more sunlight pass through, helping to minimize visible tan lines and achieve a more even-looking tan. It’s lightweight, breathable and dries in minutes.
What is tan-through fabric?
Our tan-through fabric combines a special polyester and lycra yarn woven into a micro-perforated mesh. The thousands of tiny openings increase the passage of sunlight by up to 5x compared with conventional swimwear, while still filtering part of the UV rays. The result is a more even tan - plus a fabric so light and airy it feels like a second skin.
Scientifically developed and certified
Our fabric has been tested and certified by the Hohenstein Institute, a member of the International Test Association for Applied UV Protection. Testing followed the AS/NZS 4399 standard, which measures the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of textiles.
Our fabric is certified to a UPF of 7: enough to let you tan through it, while still filtering a portion of the sun's rays. This means it offers a low level of sun protection, similar to using a tanning oil with a low SPF.
The advantages of our tan-through fabric
Say goodbye to strong tan lines
Conventional swimwear fabrics block most of the sun's rays, creating sharp and noticeable tan lines. Our tan-through fabric allows sunlight to pass through, helping the skin beneath the swimsuit tan along with the rest of your body. Seams, folds, and elastics — the elements that naturally block sunlight — have been carefully minimised to promote a more even tan.
After the first few uses, you may notice the skin beneath the fabric becoming slightly pink. This is the beginning of the tanning process. With regular and responsible sun exposure, that colour gradually develops into a natural, golden tan.
How to get the best results
Coração Bobo tan-through swimwear is designed to combine the pleasure of a natural tan with responsible sun exposure. To get the best results, follow these guidelines:
- Expose your skin to the sun gradually and responsibly. Start with shorter periods of sun exposure during the first few days and avoid peak UV hours whenever possible;
- Apply sunscreen before sun exposure and reapply regularly, especially after swimming;
- For a more even tan, try to maintain a similar level of sun protection across your entire body, paying particular attention to the areas directly exposed to the sun;
- Avoid sunburn at all times. People with fair, blonde, red-haired, or particularly sun-sensitive skin should use a higher-SPF sunscreen;
- Avoid conventional swimwear during the tanning process, as it can create or reinforce tan lines and may delay achieving a more even overall tan.
Following these guidelines is essential to achieving the best results with your Coração Bobo swimwear. Please keep in mind that every skin type responds differently to sun exposure. Individual tanning results may vary, and the body's natural response to the sun cannot be predicted or guaranteed.
